Joey King, 61, was killed in the Line of Duty 12/4/2011 while responding to an emergency call. Mr. King was a member of the Davis Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Kanawha County.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cunningham, Parker and Johnson Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the South Charleston Community Center.

Orvin Ransom "Jake" James Jr., 86, of Gassaway went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2011, surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 20, 1925, in Charleston to the late O. R. and Mary Fraser James.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by granddaughter, Kelli Jo Bowman; and his sister, Mary Lou Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mae James; son, O.R. "Randy" James III and wife, Tammy, of Frametown; daughters, Karen Lynn Bowman and husband, Joe, of Nallen, and Sarah Beth Harris and husband, Chad, of Gassaway; and grandchildren, Nathan Ryan James of Morgantown, and Kalyn Jo Harris; brothers, William E. James of Gassaway, and Charles E. James of Grafton.

Orvin was a World War II Navy veteran, having served as Gunner's Mate 3rd class on the Destroyer, USS Stevens, a member of the Gassaway volunteer fire department for 57 years, member of Braxton County EMS for over 30 years, and a member of the Braxton County Flying Club for many years. He retired from the railroad, where he worked as a brakeman and conductor for 31 years. He also was a cabinetmaker for many years for the James Cabinet Shop in Gassaway.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Braxton County Memorial Hospital for the care and comfort they provided.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, at the Gassaway Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Stump and the Rev. Linn Schiefer officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Gassaway Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gassaway Volunteer Fire Department, 105 Fifth Street, Gassaway, WV 26624.
