Media Release - Mingo County Fatal Fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that happened in Mineral County early Friday, March 18, 2016 that resulted in two fatalities. 

Two people were killed in the 1:10 a.m. fire, an 86-year-old female and an 83-year-old male, at a home on Knobley Road in Keyser. At this time investigators are ruling the fire accidental but the cause remains under investigation. 

The state of West Virginia has almost doubled the number of fire fatalities that occurred this same time last year. Our agency is looking to bring fire safety and awareness to every community. 

The State Fire Marshal encourages everyone to make sure they have working smoke alarms. If anyone is in need of smoke alarms, they’re asked to contact local fire departments or the American Red Cross for smoke alarm installation at 1-844-216-8286.
