 Public Display Fireworks & Pyrotechnicians

Every year, thousands of people are injured across the United States from both illegal Class C fireworks and legal Display Fireworks (think Charleston Regatta).  To assist the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) drive to better educate the public on the hazards of fireworks, we are providing a direct link to their website.  Please take a few minutes to visit the NFPA website and view some of the information and videos.  The West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office advocates fireworks safety throughout the year, but with the 4th of July approaching we felt it worthwhile to provide another outside source for information.  If you plan on attending a legally permitted Display Fireworks event this season, please take a few moments to view this very valuable information.

NOTE:  Class C "Consumer" Fireworks are still ILLEGAL to possess and use in West Virginia.  Basically, Consumer Fireworks are the more powerful fireworks in comparison to "novelty" fireworks.  Listed below are some examples of illegal "Consumer" fireworks.

Firecrackers
Bottle Rockets
Roman Candles
M-80 Salutes
Daygo Bombs
Cherry Bombs
Large reloadable shells (festival balls or shots)

VIOLATION OF THE FIREWORKS LAW IS A CITABLE OFFENSE AND YOUR FIREWORKS WILL BE CONFISCATED AND DESTROYED.  For a complete description of the fireworks law and what is and what is not legal, please download the State Fire Code, Section 14.1.
