 Home Inspector Certification 

Authority: WV Code, Chapter 29, Article 3, Section 5b(c), Legislative Rule, Title 87, Series 5 (Effective August 1, 2006).

Certification Process

Persons wishing to obtain their Home Inspector's Certification shall demonstrate the following criteria prior to issuance of certification:

  1. Completion of a high school diploma (or equivalent).
  2. Shall either present proof of having conducted business as a home inspector for at three years prior to August 1, 2006, OR proof of satisfactory completion of at least an eighty (80) hour, approved course (NO ONLINE COURSES ACCEPTED AS OF NOW - SEE APPROVED COURSES LIST)
  3. Shall have passed the National Home Inspector Examination offered by the Examination Board of Professional Home Inspectors, or other, comparable examination (SEE APPROVED COURSES LIST)
  4. Shall present proof of, and shall maintain, general liability insurance in the amount of not less than $250,000.00.

Safety Train

  • On-going 90 Hour Training Course approved for home inspectors - $895
  • 16 Hour Residential Construction Safety (includes 10 hour construction card) - $195
